Biography/ Professional summary

Umama Begum Ruba is an alumna of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sylhet Agricultural University, Session 2016–17. She completed her undergraduate studies at SAU and later pursued her master’s in the Department of Agroforestry and Environmental Science, where she developed strong research interests in agroforestry, sustainability, GIS, remote sensing, climate-smart agriculture, and food systems. She is currently affiliated with the University of New Hampshire, working in the field of Agricultural Sciences, Food Systems, and Sustainability.

Her academic journey reflects determination, self-learning, and research courage. During her undergraduate years, she began research from the ground up, learning literature review, survey methods, and academic writing independently. Her work later expanded into agroforestry, homestead food systems, women in agriculture, climate-smart practices, underutilized food species, digital agricultural information, and environmental sustainability. Her publications have received notable scholarly attention, including work on neglected and underutilized species, homestead agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture in haor areas, women’s participation in agriculture, and YouTube-based agricultural information quality. Her story is an inspiring example of how consistency, self-belief, and research commitment can open global academic pathways.
